Bookings for registering a birth
IMPORTANT: If you do not receive an email with confirmation of your booking (which would include the time, date and location of the appointment) your booking may have failed. This can happen even when payment has been taken. In this case please email registeroffice@manchester.gov.uk to confirm whether your booking was successful.
Please note that we can only register births that took place within the City of Manchester. If your child was born outside of the City of Manchester you will need to contact the register office for that area. If you book an appointment and your child was not born in the City of Manchester you will not be able to register the birth with us.
If the child was born outside of the City of Manchester then you will need to register with the Office that covers that area. The City of Manchester does not include Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, or any of the other local authority areas in Greater Manchester.
If the birth took place in hospital then there are 3 NHS hospitals with maternity units within the City of Manchester: St. Mary's Hospital (Manchester Royal Infirmary), North Manchester General Hospital (Crumpsall) and Wythenshawe Hospital.
If the birth took place at home - or elsewhere - then Council Tax for that address would need to be paid to Manchester City Council - Map of Manchester. You can use the link to the following section of our website to check if you are within the Manchester City Council area.
Please note Manchester is not currently part of the Tell Us Once scheme for birth registrations.
Please do not use this form to book an appointment to re-register a child. Re-registrations can be booked here.
