The rules regarding where people should give notice changed on 1 July 2021. Please ensure that you are able to give notice at Manchester Register Office BEFORE booking an appointment. If you book an appointment and you are not able to give notice here you will not receive a refund. Please visit the following link for information on giving notice.
Please ensure that you complete the booking process within the next 15 minutes, otherwise your appointment may not be booked and you may still be charged.
Before booking an appointment to give notice, it is your responsibility to read and understand the information on this page. Please read and accept the following before booking your appointment.
In order to secure your appointment you will be required to pay a booking fee of £35 per person at the end of this booking process using your credit or debit card. Depending upon your circumstances, additional fees may be payable in order for you to give notice. Any such fees will be payable when you attend your appointment.
If you intend to hold your ceremony within England or Wales, you must first give notice.To do this both of you must attend a register office, provide certain documentation and undergo an interview. The register office you need to attend and what is required of you can vary depending upon your circumstances. Please ensure that you have read and understood all the information below and elsewhere on our website, before you book your appointment. Please note: If you are intending to hold your ceremony at a religious building you cannot book this type of appointment online, please email registeroffice@manchester.gov.uk to speak with a member of staff.
If you intend to hold your ceremony outside of England or Wales, you might be required to obtain documentation from us. We can usually only issue these types of documents to UK nationals who reside within the City of Manchester. UK nationals who live elsewhere should contact their local register office. Different countries have different requirements regarding these documents, so you should check what those are prior to booking your appointment. Please read the following very carefully. It is important that you understand all the information below before you book your appointment. At the bottom of this page you will be asked to tick the box marked 'I agree' confirming that you have read and understood everything on this page.
You MUST arrive on time for your appointment. The appointment takes the entirety of the allotted time to complete. If you arrive late (even slightly) you may not be seen and would need to book another appointment. On your arrival at Heron House you should speak to the receptionist to sign in.
You may be required to pay additional fees at the appointment. Only card payments will be accepted.
In order to book a notice of marriage appointment you must first be able to confirm the following:
- I have checked that I am able to give my notice at Manchester Register Office. For more information click the following link on giving notice to marry.
- I have chosen a suitable venue for my ceremony and have obtained the full official name and address of that venue. For more information click the appropriate type of venue: Register Office, Licensed Venue, Religious Building.
- I am free lawfully to enter into marriage/civil partnership.
- I have checked whether I will be subject to the Home Office referral scheme and if so, I have read and understood all the relevant information.
- I will bring all the appropriate supporting evidence.
- I am aware that both parties need to give notice in person and that it is therefore not possible for me to give notice on behalf of my partner.
- If applicable, I will bring the required passport sized photos.
- If applicable, I will bring a valid "Share Code" in order to prove my immigration status. To obtain a "Share Code" you can use the following link regarding proving your immigration status.
- If necessary, I will bring an appropriate 3rd party to act as interpreter.
- I am aware that my ceremony cannot take place until the schedule has been issued.
- I understand that if I am not able to fulfil the requirements I will not be able to give my notice.
- I understand that if I am late for my appointment I may not be seen.
- I have read and understood all relevant information relating to the requirements of this type of appointment.
Fees:
- I will pay the appropriate fees.
- I am aware that the booking fee is only refundable if I cancel my appointment having given a minimum of 2 full working-days' notice. Under all other circumstances the fee is not refundable.
- I am aware that should I wish to re-arrange my appointment I must give a minimum of 2 full working-days' notice and if I give less than 2 full working-days' notice, a fresh appointment will be required and I will have to pay the appropriate fee.
- I am aware that if I attend and for any reason it is not possible for my notice(s) to be taken, no refund will be given and I will have to pay the appropriate fee for any further appointments required.
- I am aware that if I am subject to the Home Office Referral Scheme there will be an additional fee to be paid in order to be able to give notice, which is payable when I attend my appointment.
- I am aware that there is an additional fee to be paid for consideration of divorce, annulment, or dissolution documents issued outside of the British Isles (UK, RoI, Isle of Man, Channel Islands), which is payable when I attend my appointment.
