If you need to register a still-birth: Please email us at registeroffice@manchester.gov.uk and we will arrange an appointment for you. Please note the registration will be done by telephone.

 

If you want to re-register a birth: Please do not make a booking unless you have already submitted paperwork and been asked by us to make an appointment. If you do so, your appointment will be cancelled and you will not be seen.

 

If you require a correction: You must email us at registeroffice@manchester.gov.uk Please provide the details of the registration and the correction that you would like to make. We will respond to your enquiry via email, so please do not use this service to make a booking. If you do so, your appointment will be cancelled and you will not be seen.

 

 

 

Birth Registration Appointments

 

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic we are currently experiencing a high demand for birth registration appointments.

New appointments are made available on a weekly basis. So, if you are unable to get an appointment straight away, please continue to check the website regularly and you will be able to book an appointment at a later date.

Please do not email the register office about appointment availability, unless it is an emergency.

 

It is also possible to register births that occurred within the City of Manchester at some of the other register offices within Greater Manchester. Please see below for details:

 

Salford Register Office - Salford residents only.

Salford Register Office operates a strict appointment system.  You must not attend the office without booking an appointment as you will not be allowed access.  You can make an appointment online or alternatively if you do not have access to the online system you can telephone 0161 793 2500.

 

Bury Register Office - Bury residents only.

Bury Register Office operates a strict appointment system.  You must not attend the office without booking an appointment as you will not be allowed access.  You can make an appointment by calling 0161 253 6026.  

 

Trafford Register Office - Trafford residents only.

Trafford Register Office operates a strict appointment system.  You must not attend the office without booking an appointment as you will not be allowed access.  To book an appointment, please telephone 0161 912 3026 during their office hours, Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 4.00pm.

Rochdale Register Office

Rochdale Register Office operates a strict appointment system.  You must not attend the office without booking an appointment as you will not be allowed access.  You can make an appointment by calling 01706 924 784.

 

 

We have now restarted birth registration services at a number of Surestart Centres across Manchester. Please be aware it is not currently possible to issue birth certificates at Surestart Centres, you will need to order online after the registration.

PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION

 

 

  • IF YOU HAVE TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19 OR ARE DISPLAYING SYMPTOMS ASSOCIATED WITH COVID-19 DO NOT ATTEND YOUR APPOINTMENT.

  • If you have recently entered the UK and are subject to a quarantine period, you must have completed that quarantine period before you attend your appointment.

  • Please note that we can only register births that took place within the City of Manchester. If your child was born outside of the City of Manchester you will need to contact the register office for that area. If you book an appointment and your child was not born in the City of Manchester you will not be seen.

  • Only those required for the registration will be admitted to the building.

If the parents are married or legal civil partners: one parent only.
If the parents are not married or in a legal civil partnership: both parents - mother must attend, if 2nd parent does not attend their details cannot be recorded.
  • You must bring your own black/blue ink pen with you to sign the register.

  • When you arrive at Heron House you should immediately sign-in with reception. Please do not wait outside unless asked to do so by a member of staff.

  • You must arrive on time for your appointment. If you arrive late (even slightly) you will NOT be admitted to Heron House and will need to book another appointment. If you arrive early you will not be able to wait inside the building.

  • Only card payments will be accepted.

  • Do not bring your child/children to the appointment - unless there is absolutely no alternative. Please note there will be no changing facilities available at this time.

  • Please do not bring prams or pushchairs to your appointment. If there is no alternative, please be aware that you will be required to leave the pram/pushchair on the ground floor of the building. We will not accept any liability for the loss or theft of any items, all items are left at your own risk. Car seats or baby carriers can be brought into the appointment, however please be aware that the lift is not currently in use.

  • You must observe social distancing measures in and around Heron House.

  • You will be required to use hand sanitiser.

  • Your appointment will last around 20 to 30 minutes.

Death Registration Appointments

 

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic we are currently registering deaths over the telephone. It is not possible to register a death in-person.

We cannot register the death if we have not received the appropriate paperwork. Therefore, it is essential that you confirm that the doctor, hospital and/or coroner's office (if applicable) have emailed the paperwork to us before booking an appointment. If you are unsure, please contact the GP practice, hospital bereavement office, and/or the coroner's office for confirmation.

As part of the booking process you will select an appointment time, we will endeavour to call you at the time you select, however on occasion due to circumstances outside of our control that might not be possible. If this is the case, we will call you as soon as possible afterwards. The appointment will take around 45 minutes. Please ensure that you are available to take our call, if you are not, you will need to book another appointment.

Notice of Marriage or Civil Partnership Appointments

 

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING NOTICE APPOINTMENTS

Due to an impending change to the legislation affecting where a couple should give their notices of marriage or civil partnership, we are currently unable to book any appointments after 30th June 2021.

We apologise for any disappointment or inconvenience this may cause.

  • Do not bring your child/children to the appointment.

  • Please do not bring prams or pushchairs to your appointment. If there is no alternative, please be aware that you will be required to leave the pram/pushchair on the ground floor of the building. We will not accept any liability for the loss or theft of any items, all items are left at your own risk. Car seats or baby carriers can be brought into the appointment, however please be aware that the lift is not currently in use.

Re-Registration of Birth Appointments

 

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic we are currently only able to re-register the birth of people who were born within the City of Manchester. If you want to re-register the birth of someone born outside of the City of Manchester (including all the other districts of Greater Manchester) you will need to contact the register office for that area.

In order to re-register a birth you must have previously submitted the appropriate paperwork. Once we have processed your application we will contact you and ask you to book an appointment. Due to the current situation with regard to COVID-19, the booking of all other types of appointment is currently suspended.

If you book an appointment for a service that is not currently being provided you will not be seen.
